Melbourne | The Art of Kimiya Masago
A Solo Art Exhibition
From the heroes of the Three Kingdoms and the outlaws of Liangshan to the samurai of Japan’s Sengoku period — history and legend unfold in his art as magnificent tales of heroes.
This December, Wonder Art Festival joins JToys to present a solo exhibition by Kimiya Masago in Melbourne:
✨ The Art of Kimiya Masago
Kimiya Masago is a Japanese emaki artist, known for his powerful portrayals of historical figures and warriors. Combining Japanese and Western painting techniques with the expressive qualities of manga, he brings new life to classical stories through vivid colors, intricate costumes and dynamic characters.
From his illustrated Three Kingdoms collection to his illustrated Water Margin series, his works bring legendary heroes to life in a richly imagined world. Masago has also worked as a costume designer for film. He designed costumes for Chen Kaige’s The Promise, as well as for Dororo, the film adaptation of Osamu Tezuka’s manga.
This exhibition will showcase Masago’s artwork, inviting visitors to explore the characters and intricate details up close and discover a world where history, legend and imagination intertwine.
Whether you admire Masago’s work or have an interest in history, Asian art and culture, we warmly welcome you to the exhibition. We look forward to seeing you in Melbourne this December!
